In honor of #InternationalDayofPersonsWithDisabilities, we're taking a closer look at this Parisian city view as captured by Camille #Pissarro.
Surveying the view from his room at the Grand Hôtel de Russie in early 1897, #Pissarro marveled that he could "see down the whole length of the boulevards" with "almost a bird's-eye view of carriages, omnibuses, people, between big trees, big houses that have to be set straight."
The perspective Pissarro describes, which he became lauded for, can in part be attributed to the chronic eye condition he developed after a bad infection in 1888, which led him to prefer painting indoors.
The artist’s disability was the catalyst for creative innovation: the higher floors from which he painted offered a unique perspective on the city below.
