A leading conceptual artist who emerged in Argentina in the 1960s and 1970s, Romberg had long-standing ties to Philadelphia, including a two-decade tenure as a professor at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He also co-founded the @slought_org, an arts and culture nonprofit affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania. On the occasion of the artist’s eightieth birthday in 2018, the museum joined the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and the Negev Museum of Art in Beersheba, Israel, in celebrating Romberg’s contribution to the arts by presenting an installation of the artist’s work—“The Calling of St. Matthew.
