Did you know that reindeer and caribou are actually the same species, Rangifer tarandus? Reindeer is the European name for what North Americans call caribou. The main difference between the two mammals: Reindeer were domesticated by Arctic peoples for at least 3,000 years in Eurasia, whereas caribou have not been domesticated.
