It took on a greater depth of meaning for all of us standing there in the place where David actually tended his sheep and wrote this psalm. What stuck out to me is where David writes, “He makes me lie down in green pastures,” because as far as we could see, there was not even a blade of green grass much less a pasture. Our guide told us that the rains come only once a year and during that time for 2 weeks the desert is covered in fields of green grass! (You can look this up, it’s pretty spectacular) He explained that in those 2 weeks, the feeling that you need to work extra-hard to find a way to save it might take hold of you, but what David is saying is that in God’s blessings, you only have to lie down and rest. You don’t have to strive or try to hold on to it. You can simply relax in it and enjoy! God will be with you when the desert turns back brown again, He will comfort you when you’re walking through the dark valleys, and when the good times come, lie down, relax, enjoy and be assured that one day the grass will be green again. “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.” ‭‭Psalm 23 #israelencounter」11月21日 19時44分 - bosshogswife
