This photograph is taken from high up in the air and these are not tiny sea turtle hatchlings! Each animal leaving bulldozer like tracks in the sand is a almost 3 feet (1m) long adult female coming ashore to nest. Costa Rica's arribadas—mass arrivals of sea turtles—are among nature's most spectacular sights. Once or twice a month during the rainy season, female olive ridleys come ashore by the tens of thousands, dig nests in the sand, and lay their eggs under the hungry eyes of egg-stealing vultures and raccoons.
