Recently Taronga and DPIE staff undertook the first monitoring for the season of Southern Corroboree Frogs in their field enclosures in Kosciuszko National Park. The monitoring is done on several occasions over the warmer months to check on the enclosures, monitor population numbers and assess the health of the frogs. Every frog has an ID check, measure and weigh-in, is visually assessed and then swabbed to confirm they are chytrid fungus-free.

These frogs were released from the zoo breeding program as juveniles in 2017 after the enclosures were constructed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. The enclosures are designed to rear the frogs in a semi-wild environment, free of the disease that has caused the species to decline.
