ZOOM in on these photos and you’ll see that often we have to “handle” the changing environment and guide these amazing creatures past us. I often do this with my dogs when I’m feeding them all at once and one comes for the other ones food, You know what I’m talking about? Well it’s pretty much the same thing, we often need to guide the sharks past us instead of through us! Guide them up or down and we ONLY do this if we have to and in such a gentle way. Our mission on every dive is safety for both animal and human. This handling is only done by trained professionals who know exactly what they are doing because if you don’t, you can loose a hand faster then you can say “Sit”. These are 3 of my favorite shark dives, Great Hammerheads, Great Whites & Oceanic White Tips. The Great white photo & dive holds a dear place in my heart because this was Klara’s first white shark expedition. Traveling a couple weeks after her 10th birthday where she got to witness dad, scientist and my team dive outside the cage at times with up to 6 of these huge beauties. Her whole Life she’d watch me leave on these expeditions telling her when she was 10 I’d take her! She has continued to go every year since for the last 5 years. My 3 daughters have NO FEAR of sharks. They do NOT have the same perception my entire generation has. Now they deeply FEAR climate change, and I feel that has replaced the JAWS of our generation, only that’s actually based on fact and it’s REAL. As a Father I’m trying to help them find a balance between a healthy fear and hope that we can do something about it. I guess just like I had to go face my fear of sharks and replace the ignorance with facts & experience, they too will need to go out and face climate change! Most importantly they need to do the work to change it because at this point, NO ONE can sit back and wait for others to fix it. It will take every single one of us working to alter & change so many things. The most important action of all is to use their voices and the power to VOTE people into all levels of Government who are doing something to STOP climate change.
