Fitness goals! 3 years ago today I finished my last @usparalympics games w a 7th place in #sprintkayak .
.
Not my best finish but one of the most important experiences of my athletic career. It was the first and only time since I started adaptive sports I always had a goal of winning. I thought, “nobody goes for silver” ...duh.
.
Well when I began training for sprint kayak I quickly learned that my classification/category made it nearly impossibly for me to win (Me a paraplegic VS mostly amputees) this was beyond frustrating for me and I almost considered quitting.

With about a year to go before Rio 2016 I decided to follow through my commitment to sprint kayak (considering water quality, Zika, and not winning) and go to the games. It was the first time in my career I wasn’t training to win, I woke up everyday at 5am to paddle and worked out after just to finish my best. That changed the journey entirely. I had to be more self motivated and task oriented than ever and that’s something I’ve carried on with me since. .
This picture is of my finishing 7th at the @paralympics... not something you normally celebrate but as you can see, I’m stoked!
