This site has a fascinating history. These remains are the intentionally unfinished stupa project of King Bbodawpaya. The building of the temple took a tremendous toll on the state and resources and, as a result, a false prophecy was created to slowly stop the project. The prophecy has many iterations since creation, but it generally stated that when the project was complete the king would die. At abandonment, Mingun Pahtodawgi stood only 1/3 of it’s intended 150 meter height.  King Bodawpaya also had a 90 ton bell cast to accompany the pagoda, and it still, to this day, holds the record of the 2nd largest ringing bell in the world.  Thanks to @stevemccurryofficial for his tireless and beautiful work that has inspired me and so many other photographers. So much of what we create is reimagined images by those who have come before us. For their guidance, I'm eternally indebted.
