Under French law, no more than twelve original casts of #Rodin may be made. The 1895 cast of the “Burghers of Calais” still stands in Calais, France, directly in front of the town hall (left). One of the other original casts stands in Philadelphia, in the garden at the #RodinMuseum (right). Visit it for yourself—the museum is open Wednesday through Monday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and admission is always Pay What You Wish.

The Burghers of Calais
Went solemnly to their duty today
Together yet alone
The adversaries were strong
With a desire to do wrong
Intent not to leave alone
I could play their role on any given day
The Naysayers would say
But not today. They’re alone
Civic duty clearly has a cost
Time and treasure is lost
These leaders walk alone
False allies many would be
Saying better them than me
Leave me alone
Their service was applauded
Their selflessness was lauded
Sacrifice their’s alone

Was this moved from @philamuseum to the Rodin? Didn’t it used to sit at the back entrance of PMA?
