Photo by @hellokrisdavidson | Reaching the top of the Kelso Dune Field in the Mojave Desert in California involves a Sisyphean effort of scrambling upward and sliding backward against the traction resistant incline, but it’s all worth it. Upon reaching the top just as the sun is setting is akin to stepping into a dreamscape. In all my years of travel journalism, it remains a favorite memory. As the largest field of aeolian sand deposits in the Mojave Desert, the area spans 45 miles, comprised of migrating dunes, vegetation stabilized dunes, sand sheets and sand ramps— and a good dose of magic. #Mojave #NPS #kelso
