We are pleased to offer 300+ Chinese works of art originally gifted by philanthropists and renowned Asian art collectors Florence and Herbert Irving to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, as a highlight of our Asia Week sale series this September. Full proceeds from the sales will go into an Irving acquisition fund, to be used by The Met’s Department of Asian Art to continue the Irving legacy by seeking out artworks to further enhance the comprehensive nature of the institution’s holdings of Asian art. This finely carved spinach-green jade brushpot belongs to a highly refined group of ‘figure-in-landscape’ brush pots, created at the height of the jade production in the Qianlong period. ken.marcelina How is the museum going to acquire new Asian works, from the proceeds of these now for sale gifts? I ask because the Asian market is untouchable. Do they just say they are selling Asian works to buy new asian works to keep from Scaring off future donations / donors ?

sothebys Please note as with many Chinese works of art it is safest to handle this brushpot without gloves to ensure the most sensitive and secure touch.
