There are a lot of things that go on on a big wall that don’t involve climbing... rope management, gear pulling down on the waist band of your harness, hauling... just being in a constant state of discomfort. It all takes this ambiguous amount of effort that gradually gnaws away at your overall energy levels. Climbing through no-fall-zone terrain creates this mindset of hyper awareness. Falling isn’t really something you want to have as an option, at least for us on our recent trip, it definitely wouldn’t have been a good idea on a lot of pitches because craters of loose rock were teasing the tipping point of lodging off. The result of mitigating risk and finding a way to climb safely through not safe circumstances has left me pretty flat out exhausted. I planned to take a little break from climbing, to just get some distance and reset. However, being in Portugal, I feel really grateful for @andr3neres showing me a window into the beauty this country hosts the climbing world. It’s nice to remember how type 1 fun climbing can be! 😄 #portugal #fenda」8月19日 21時58分 - sashadigiulian
