I’ll never forget the first time that I saw Shovels and Rope perform at a dive bar in Denver called the Hi-Dive. A married couple, Michael on drums and Cary on guitar, they performed this song as if it would be the last time they would ever perform on stage again. Every time I have seen them since they have continued to embrace this feeling and it makes it so special to see them together live. In hopes at an attempt to give an incredible compliment, this duo from South Carolina does not focus on playing their instruments ‘well’ but rather on leaving a lasting impression on the crowd in how they connect emotionally with the audience. What I love about this song is that each chorus is different both melodically and lyrically, but ends each way with the word ‘Birmingham.’ In doing so the songs discards the traditional ‘verse’ and ‘chorus’ and just bowls you over with the sheer power of Song. - @jeremiahfraites」8月19日 4時01分
