I’m a children’s theatre director and educator with my own theatre company. My 4 year old is NOT a natural performer. He gets super stage fright and nervous before performing. But at his last school show on the big stage he told me he didn’t want to do it, but he got up there anyway and did it. She. I asked him about it he told me he did it “even though he didn’t want to”. The show must got on, right?! I’m trying not to project my personal feelings toward theatre and performing on him.

I was the Chesire Cat for a camp play. The first week of camp, the director got rid of my scene. I was devestated because she didn’t even bother giving me another part. I sat there for a week while the other kids did their scenes, and then a few days before the show she changed her mind again. I had 2 lines and a crappy costume now looking back on it, but I was 7 and thought it was great.
I’m now 13 and auditioning for the lead in Matilda 😁

My daughter has struggled with behavioral issues at daycare (biting, kicking, scratching....). She was away for 2 months over the summer and the first day back, one of the teachers posted pics from their activities and she was playing with her same old friends having a blast. I was so nervous about how things would go. 😅

My daughter started community theater at 10, and my son tagged along because I didn’t want to leave him home alone... he decided to audition the next year and they both continued w drama and musical theater through HS. Memorization and confidence in front of an audience helped them a lot in college and in their careers!

My daughter was a goldfish in an adaptation of Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you see? All the kids were paired with another kid or two for their speaking part except mine (her buddy bailed to be a white dog - ha!). She did great. The anticipation of wondering how she would handle it was pretty high!

My daughter is on the shy side. But when she was in her first dance recital at age 5, she was acting all nervous backstage before her routine but when she got out there she just TURNED UP and nailed the routine. It was amazing and I cried like a baby!!
