This image is an outtake from a 2016 project documenting migration into Europe. During its time at sea, the Aquarius rescued roughly 80,000 migrants and refugees from the Mediterranean. Without the work of @doctorswithoutborders and dozens of other rescue organizations on the Mediterranean, thousands more would have lost their lives. Rescue ships like the Aquarius are no longer allowed to operate in the Mediterranean, and dinghies carrying migrants from Libya are often turned away. To see more of my work, follow @lynseyaddario.

esavelitay @razuvanchic I don't know the reasons. I'm living in a little country in América Latina, and I'm an average citizen too. But we have a similar issue with migrants that comes from Perú, Colombia, Venezuela, Tahiti, Bolivia mostly. Some of them are legal migrants, some are not. But if I talk to them, the hope that they have is giving a better life to their families.. Even if here they live in very hard conditions and get very bad pay works. I try to understand, because Chile isn't a development country, but even in these case for them is a better way than stay in their countries..

richard.elliott14 There are 500,000,000 people in Africa, do you suggest that they are all allowed into Europe? Where does it end ? We have formal channels for visa entries , and many many people have to abide by these rules of entry . I have to be checked in and out of the UK for instance , so guys like you taking virtue signalling photos like this to try and make people feel bad doesnt work. Have you thought about photographing the warlords and the politicians of these African counties and show how corrupt and decietful they are .

rupertlove8 Overpopulation is obviously the prime driver of accelerated climate change. Countries that care about the environment need to become completely isolationist if humanity is to live in harmony with nature.

ssglopes Why the picture only shows a mum with kid and not the whole picture and or refugee boat? This picture doesn't say anything really... is only more heart taking the reason.... Hope the best for mom and kid.
