This is a long one, but I promise it’s worth it!
The other day someone on @Instagram asked me what my favorite part of Peru was. You would think that my immediate answer would be “winning gold!” or maybe even “traveling solo and meeting people” but no. Those are not the first things that come to mind. Instead it’s the moment that I met this dog in Aguas Calientes, just outside of Machu Pichu. Within a minute of sniffing my hand, he climbed up into my lap with his 2 front paws. Within minutes he was fast asleep. @eliza.stone and I fed him some canned tuna and gave him water. When I started getting ready to leave, he started trying to climb on top of me, grabbing me with his 2 fronts paws, and grabbing my jacket with his teeth. I started sobbing crying, knowing that this dog, must have just felt love and care for possibly the first time in his life. Sitting on the train back to Cusco, I couldn’t stop crying and thinking of him. And that’s when I knew that I couldn’t just leave this dog behind. I posted in my story about him and almost immediately started receiving messages about how I can go about rescuing him. I reached out to the biggest animal lover that I know, @ジョアンナ・クルーパ who put me in touch with @animalhopeandwellness who were the ones that made me believe that this could actually be done. And then I was put in touch with the incredible people at @petwingsperu who have been absolutely amazing in helping me in every step of the way. A million thank yous to everyone! I wouldn’t have been able to do it without your help! I cannot wait to have Oro (@thatperuvianrescue ) here in the US with me so I can show him all of the love he has been missing out on. (Fingers crossed @pongoandnala accept him into the family)
