Regulators are taking a tougher stance on cigarette filter pollution amid concerns about the environmental impact of single-use plastic. Butts for decades have been made from cellulose acetate, a form of plastic, which takes years to break down. ⠀

Some tobacco companies are testing biodegradable filters, while Philip Morris is assessing the appetite for portable ashtrays. Companies also are tapping behavioral psychologists to understand what propels smokers to litter.⠀

chrisr4101 I never understood anyone who flicked their Butts and littered them after smoking. You wouldn't go to subway, order a sandwich and a drink, eat most of it, then take the bag and cup and toss it out the side of your car on the freeway would you? So why is your butt any different? Field strip it like we were taught to do in the Army and dispose of it properly later. It isn't even an inconvenience to dispose of them properly since...Er wait, banning the use of them everywhere has meant that places to safely dispose of them have been removed... Probably should've thought through that ban a little better before implementing it...

jad___mohamad Hey guys!! Really thought this whole Trading thing was a hoax till a friend of mine withdrew from his account and showed it to me. I was still skeptical but I tried it anyways and I must say I was not disappointed. So much so that I asked a woman who threw hers out her window toward my car (both open windows at a stoplight) who was going to pick that up...and she followed me to my apartment and around town for about 15mins 🤭 But c’mon people. raygibbs2055 In the Army I was made to pick up butts and I didn't smoke. Got pissed one day and refused. Got an article 13 and I won . Army Not inclined to do the right thing. Court Marshal ed me. I won that one also. You see the Fed on the wrong side of this kind of arguement time and Again. As they are victims of stinking thinking!
