Busy perfecting my talk for my speaking tour in September. I talk a little about my 7 year long shoulder injury (wingery). One way of looking at those years is to say ‘well the silver linings are that you learnt lots of things and you used the time out to start a coaching business which has made you a happier person and helps others’. This is great but it also feels like a total cop-out. I think that silver linings are (at best) a kind of dumb positivity to eke out anything good from a shit situation and (at worst) another way of saying you are perfectly happy to polish a turd 💩. The more important lesson is to value the struggle, in and of itself. The obstacle isn’t in the way it IS the way. As climbers this should be intuitive because, you can usually always walk round! We purposefully seek out the hardest pieces of rock to get to the top of because we see the value in the obstacle itself not because there is no other way round it. “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way” Marcus Aurelius. This stoic philosophy is universally well known but how often do we actually apply it to anything other than climbing? This is me on what I think is one of the coolest pitches ever. And it’s cool because it has no grips. @thedailystoic @blackdiamond @speakersfromtheedge

lpwsstudios My wife and I gave a talk about being lost and finding a way forward. Environmentalist say the most evolution and growth happens in the very narrow strip where two ecosystems meet. When we are lost, that grey period is really a very narrow strip between huge swaths of time where we don't feel lost. While it may feel like it last forever, it is actually an important moment where real evolution and growth can happen (as it appears to be in your case).

smknight85 Will you be putting your talk online at all? Or doing one in London? All those venues are a little far for us to get to, Horsham is the closest (1.5hours) but too busy climbing in Spain that week 🙄
