Our Contemporary Art specialist @michaelbouhanna visited the magnificent Musée national Fernand Léger in Biot, France. Opened in 1960, the museum is dedicated to the design, ceramics, bronzes and tapestries of the 20th century artist, as well as the large-scale paintings and murals for which he is most famously known. Often proclaimed a forerunner for Contemporary and Pop Art, Léger’s unique style used bold contrasting colours and graphic lines to striking effect.

The exterior of the museum was constructed under the direction of Léger’s close friend and collaborator Georges Bauquier, and his widow Nadia Khodasevich Léger. It is decorated with monumental mosaics executed by Heidi Melano after designs that Léger had originally intended for the Olympic Stadium in Hanover.
