#GuessTheArtist answer: Robert Rauschenberg, “Yellow Body” (1968). During a trip to Cuba in 1952, Rauschenberg first experimented with transfer drawings, taking printed images, primarily from newspapers and magazines, placing them face down on sheets of paper, and then rubbing the backs of the images with an empty ballpoint pen or other burnishing device to transfer the original to the paper. The technique has been described as imparting a veiled quality, which the artist heightens by applying paint, pencil, and crayon marks over the transferred images. “Yellow Body” exemplifies a technical development in which Rauschenberg applied a chemical solvent, such as lighter fluid, to the preprinted image, facilitating a clearer and more complete transfer. #GuggenheimCollection #Guggenheim #Rauschenberg

lawrencevoytek Great stuff, I worked on the system later in Bob life where we figured out how Bob could take his own photos, we could digital print high res images with archival inks and he could transfer on to 300lb 5’x10’ panels of high quality water color paper , and hand transfer with out a press... He told me his dreams came true... seeing him in his new studio doing what he wanted... blisters on his fingers so happy with his Art... best of times

elisabethastley I was right! 😊 I saw his exhibition at Guggenheim 1997. I will soon visit again from Sweden. My first great memory of Guggenheim is the Sleeping Beauty, Scandinavia today exhibition in 1982. I was there for the opening as our gallery represent Lars Englund and Olle Kåks. Looking forward to my visit in September ❤

v.cochran.art I was a student at the University of South Florida when Mr Rauschenberg came to work in the print department. That process was being used at the time in the various studios. Still fun to play around with even today.
