Algae, as far as the eye can see, bloomed into this green scene that extend for miles and miles along the south west of #LakeErie. This photo here is a 4 minute exposure creating a placid look on a stormy day over the lake. These blooms are the result of excess phosphorus in the water, primarily introduced through agriculture run off into the lake through irrigation and blown in during winter months by the wind. The lake is also heavily polluted through various industries throughout the Lake Erie region. It’s been a compounded problem over decades and these blooms occur during the hot summer months, activated through the heat. With temperatures only increasing it’s certain to be a problem that only gets worse unless a solution is found. Photographed on assignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック

It’s a very sorry state. If we don’t contain human activities soon we will lose everything we ever had. Today India is facing floods in different parts of the country this is majorly result of deforestation. Landslides and flooding are taking lives... lakhs of people have been evacuated. Infants, pregnant women are being rescued from various locations.

O ser humano sempre pensa no lucro de seus produtos. Queria que o mesmo empenho, tivessem para a solução deste problema. A Terra agradeceria muito!😢😡

Is this only lake you travelled for? Is this the American side? Disgusting human behaviour. Chemical pollution at its finest.

That's such a powerful image. I live on the north shore of the lake near Buffalo NY, so this really hits home!

Beautiful photo mate! 👍Curious to see if Lake Ontario has the same effect, it's super polluted as well🤔
