#AndyWarhol made this painting the year screen legend #MarilynMonroe committed suicide. He painted the canvas an iridescent gold and silkscreened the star’s face in the center of the composition. Warhol based this portrait on a publicity still from the 1953 film “Niagara,” duplicating a photograph known to millions. Even as Warhol canonizes Monroe, he reveals her public persona as a carefully structured illusion. See it this fall in the #newMoMA.

Accidental OD I believe. Barbiturates build up in the system and have a long half life. Basically it’s still in your system and it’s time to take the next dose. Doctor prescribed me barbiturates and I took as directed but became extremely ill and was displaying classic symptoms of overdose although I took them exactly as prescribed. Those things just don’t leave the body fast enough. Add in Marilyn’s penchant for washing meds down with champagne and you have a recipe for disaster. Marilyn was such a talent. Gone too soon.

@themuseumofmodernart is your Gold Marilyn Monroe one of the four famous “Shot Marilyns”, that has a repaired, but still slightly visible, bullet hole in it from the night Dorothy Podber pulled out a revolver in The Factory and fired a round through a stack of Andy’s Marilyn Monroe paintings?
I’ve never seen one of them in person, and would very much like to.

Who is writing this nonsense ? Warhol WAS camp -this is a camp image of a woman who wrote the book on camp , and he abhorred pretentious blabberings of importance ...geez, a little thoughtfulness when handling Art History please .

when i saw it live and direct on MoMA. I was impressed by the Marilyn paint's size. Not all the canvas. But yes, by the portrait size. VIVA WARHOL! Love you NYC.

Her story is far more complicated with many aspects still unknown for you to state so poorly that she "committed suicide". Get a better editor.
