It’s always been hard to be Latinx in America but now harder than ever! We are in cages, separated from our babies, excluded, ignored, voiceless, marginalized, incarcerated and now shot en masse!
This a letter from Mark Pitcavage’s Mom who lives in El Paso!

@frankieboy2150 My DNA is 44% Native American, 42% European and 14% African. I'm not Mexican and even though I identify as Hispanic I embrace all of my ancestors. I'm a firm believer that DNA carries some form of memory and because of that if tells the truth about who we really are, who our ancestors are and not what we choose to identify as or what others identify us as. How much European DNA do you have? I ask that because you have a very European mentality of claiming ownership of things. In the eastern parts of the US I've seen some people that claim some tribal affiliation but look very European. I look more indigenous than some of these people. The further east you go in this country the more watered down the indigenous blood gets. When @liz_roddy75 stated "My ancestors were here first" I'm sure it was in response to the El Paso domestic terrorist's manifesto where he expressed that all to familiar European "ownership" of things. In this case it was ownership of Texas. She's right her ancestors were here first before his since he doesn't appear to have a drop of Native American or Spanish blood in him.

@frankieboy2150 @frankieboy2150 The we is in quotation. The "we" Russel means was referring to was himself, Oren Lyons, Joagquisho, Faithkeeper, Onondaga Nation; Jose Mendoza Acosta, Panama; Reinir Artist, Surinam, KANO; Rene Fuerst, Presentation for the Amazonian Peoples; Manuel Tzoc Mejia, Guatemala; Natalio Hernandez Hernandez, Mexico; Antonio Millape, Mapuche Confederation, Chile; Philip Deere, International Indian Treaty Council; Ed Bernstick, American Indian Movement of Canada; Grandfather David Monongye, Hote Villa, Hopi Village; Marie Sanchez, Northern Cheyenne Nation; Art Solomon, American Indian Movement, Canada; Juan Condori Uriche, Bolivia; Larry Red Shirt, Lakota Treaty Council. I listed ALL these names not just because they attended the conference but also as examples of Native Americans. Means quote wasn't from the conference but from In his 1998 essay "I Am An American Indian, Not a Native American!" He has not publicly retracted that statement. Oh and by the way the American Indian College Fund was started in 1989. Why would an organization call ITSELF something that they find offensive?

@anaros650 you’re far more confused than I thought. Either that or you’re lying. You yourself just used the term Native American to describe yourself when your whole argument is about using the term American Indian. That and you didn’t name any tribe which is a big red flag in my book. And the fact you claim Hispanic when you’re not at all not even close! That’s a joke right? You embrace your ancestors so much that you claim to be something you are not 😂 ok crazy and you’re the one who has the European mentality as angry as you are and all this garbage you wanna copy off your google search with no personal experience to put forth. You know nothing about Native American culture and that’s clear because you’ve given no hint of it. I grew up on a Rez in OK I was born in El Paso and I have no European blood whatsoever. I’m of Creek, Cherokee, and some Apache. Yeah she’s right her ancestors were here before his, but my ancestors were here long long before hers and that was my point. I’m sorry, but in a battle of wits you’re unarmed. 🤫

@frankieboy2150 "So no I’m sorry that doesn’t work for us" So you're the official representative for ALL Indigenous Americans? I think not. It's called the American Indian College Fund not Native American Indian College Fund. It's the American Indian Movement not the Native American Indian Movement. Maybe it's a generational thing much like the terms Hispanic, Latino and Latinx are for the Hispanic community. Russel Means prefers American Indian and these were his reasons "At an international conference of Indians from the Americas held in Geneva, Switzerland, at the United Nations in 1977 we unanimously decided we would go under the term American Indian. "We were enslaved as American Indians, we were colonized as American Indians, and we will gain our freedom as American Indians and then we can call ourselves anything we damn please." You can't take ownership of and redefine the term "Native American" without Indigenous Americans collective embracing it.

@anaros650 😂 you go ahead and keep with what was written by the same people who nearly wiped out our people. Sorry but this is 🇮🇳 Indian and we are not. The problem is we accepted it just like we now use the English language. It was something forced on us and you’re just another one who has accepted it. I didn’t redefine anything. Sorry but Mexicans can’t say they were here first. You might be mad about that but it’s the truth. Those indigenous people that helped to make the mix of who are now Mexicans weren’t close to what is now the U.S. He made that quote so that later the “Indian” would be dropped, but I guess you missed that. Especially considering it’s from 77. And don’t say we when you haven’t stated anything about your background.

@rach_sarabia I applaud you for your work however, who said anything about being loud and using foul language? Question do you understand what the civil rights movement was all about? Being loud and using foul language was the complete opposite of what was done. That was a bit presumptuous if you ask me. I am talking about hispanic leadership being quiet and not speaking out to this hate which was being spewed to the Mexican community. If you watch CNN or MSNBC you would see how much black leadership have been fighting for these families being torn apart. Yo cannot sit quietly and vote systematic racism away, it just doesn't work.
