Ruth is feeding 7-month-old Christ-Vie inside a nursery for children affected by Ebola in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo. Ruth, 19, survived Ebola, which flooded her body with high levels of protective antibodies, practically eliminating the likelihood of her catching the virus again. She’s using her immunity to help children whose mothers are suffering from Ebola by cradling, feeding and playing with them. Ruth’s human touch is vital for Christ-Vie’s emotional wellbeing. Tragically, baby Christ-Vie’s mother passed away a few days before this photo was taken. @unicefrdcongo is supporting her care until her family come to collect her. © UNICEF/UN0311515/@vtremeau

I am so sad for Christ-Vie losing her mom at such a young age. She is precious and I’m sure her mom loves her so dearly. I hope that her family is able to provide her with love and support and I’m so happy Ruth has been there to interact with her during this time. This is devastating.

So tragic as a mother not being able to hold your baby knowing you're sick and worse fear is leaving your child behind .😭😭
