I've been taking lessons in something since the start of the year- I won't say what because I don't have much to show for it yet but let's just say it's something that features on a lot of New Year Resolution lists.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

The lessons have generally been going well but yesterday I had a really tough one. I was way out of my comfort zone and just shy of the point where I wanted to throw a tantrum & storm out (I'm 32 by the way but I think I could still throw a decent tantrum if I needed to). I didn't though. I stuck with it but on the walk home I realised that there's really no other time in my week when I'm made to mentally step up, drop the ego and expose myself (not literally. I haven't been doing life art classes if that was your guess). Don't get me wrong my photography challenges me but it's generally something I've got a grasp of & I can rely on experience to see me through. ⁣

Yesterday was a reminder that it's really f**king hard to learn something new but I think it's really healthy to be a student of something as an adult. So to everyone who's pursuing a new hobby, studying alongside a job, feeling like a fool in the name of self-improvement: Keep It Up!⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣

asmaawrites Well done for testing yourself! I’m going to be honest, for me I get really caught up in the thrill of learning something new and then when that wears off - the frustration kicks in (to the point of tantrums!). But it’s still something of a joy to challenge yourself as an adult! Here’s to somehow getting through the hard part! 💪🏾

rileysdd Good for you. I am a great admirer of your work. I pop in every so often to let you know. I appreciate your new learning challenge. I am nearly 72 & took up pottery a year ago. The wheel is really hard, but I’m persevering. As hard as it is, I’m determined & love it!! Can’t wait to see what you’re doing.

lifechangeditself This photo is gorgeous! It's my favorite of those I've seen so far, which is saying something! Also, I sympathize. I'm going back to school and sometimes it's truly daunting, even while being wonderful. Good for you for taking on the challenge of something new!

butterchocnut You can do it!! I love learning new things but it gets frustrating especially since I like being immediately good at something (which isn’t often). But it’s rewarding once you’re at the point where you can say you’re satisfactory at it.

jonners11 I know exactly how you feel! You're so right, you just have to keep going and pull through the other side. Today you're feeling like this, tomorrow you may be in the happiest of places. It's human. You got this 💪💪

paperboyo @addlife1 That's so insightful, I hadn't thought about it like that but it's true- it's not just a new skill you're learning, it's discipline too. Thanks for the lightbulb moment and best of luck with the hobby!
