Photo by Robin Hammond @hammond_Robin for @Witness_Change | “I was waiting outside by the stoop, two doors from the Stonewall Bar,” says 73-year-old Victoria Cruz, a transgender queer woman and veteran of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, “when all of a sudden the cops came in.” The Stonewall riots, as they became known, are widely considered the most important event leading to the LGBTQI+ liberation movement. Victoria joined the uprising to fight for equality. Much has improved, she says, but “the war keeps on.” I met Victoria at GRIOT Circle, @GRIOTcircle, a community-based, multigenerational organization serving LGBTQ elders of color. fauzk What is the use of learning about Geography without taking interest in the lives that exist within it. The piece is perfectly aligned with natego’s usual coverage. Much ado about nothing, I would say.
