This species is one of six iconic species represented under the NSW Governments Saving Our Species program. Before September 1994 the Pine itself was presumed long extinct. Until David Noble an officer of the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services re-discovered it in a deep and narrow canyon within the Wollemi National Park.
