This video shows a conversation between leading authorities Fred Myers, Silver Professor of Anthropology at New York University, and Henry Skerritt, Curator of Indigenous Arts of Australia at the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection of the University of Virginia, and Margo Smith AM, director of the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection, to coincide with the critically acclaimed “Desert Painters of Australia” at Gagosian, 976 Madison Avenue, New York.

derushaart My understanding the Americans were first in loving and collecting aboriginal art, the artists subject may have been similar to each other but each had their own style, the execution of the paintings of telling their stories about their country was like no other. Their life style is in sharing their art blossomed bc of their individuality and their wisdom. Each line, each dot, the compositions, with song, makes all our knowledge of art, wonder.

artbychadpratch 8 years ago the last art exhibition I saw in new york before leaving back to 🇨🇦 I saw an Australian indigenous art show. Now most of what I do as an artist has pointalism in it or highly detailed line work. To me these artists are the best

bobbiejemich I wish to god that the words ‘they’ and ‘their’ were not thrown around so much. What about reference to ‘the artist/artists’ or referring by name. Talk about othering!
