Throughout the second 10 years of my career, I became more overtly political. At the time, George W. Bush was president, and I saw that as a move in the wrong direction for our country. I felt the need to be more direct about my opinions. My civic engagement is important, and so is everybody else's; I wanted to lead by example. Head over to my #IGTV to watch the full clip of PART 2 of my video series. Launched in collaboration with @Juxtapoz Magazine, filmed and produced by @chopemdownfilms! - Shepard

“As the second plane hit the World Trade Center, George W. Bush had been listening intently to teacher Kay Daniels and her class of second graders at Emma E. Booker Elementary in Sarasota, Florida.
Natalia Jones-Pinkney, one of the pupils, thought he ‘looked like he was going to cry.’ ‘His face just started to turn red,’ said Tyler Radkey, another student. ‘I thought, personally, he had to go to the bathroom.’” – Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan, “The Eleventh Day” (2011).

"Only months before 9/11, Frank De Martini, construction manager for the New York Port Authority, had dismissed the notion of one of the towers/the Twin Towers collapsing. “I believe the building(s) probably could sustain multiple impacts of jetliners.” De Martini was himself to die on 9/11." – Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan, “The Eleventh Day: The Full Story of 9/11” (2011).

You’re awesome! Just wish I could afford your artwork - not just to have on the wall, but to show my kids that art as a medium is important to spread a message/perspective. It’s some thing you can look at, sure, but your take on the issues and the stance behind them is something if love to discuss with them as they mature. Keep up the good fight! ✊
