This is why people like Jesus said it’s not wise to idolize and deify objects, whether manmade or natural. I’m not at all unsympathetic to how poorly Hawaiians and other indigenous peoples have been treated. Being of Irish descent my ancestors have suffered very similar fates. And being Irish Catholic I have all kinds of gripes with the way the British and Protestants have brutalized Ireland. But I don’t support the IRA and I don’t believe it’s productive for the Irish to resurrect the Celtic religions and myths. In the end, most everyone in Ireland willingly chose Christianity over their own indigenous religion. It’s still alive in the tales told and in the arts but it’s acknowledged as history, not a way to live now. Moving forward together as a species doesn’t mean we have to abandon all connection to the past, it just means we have to keep it all in a healthy perspective. May you be well, too??
