How we all feel today. We had so much hope for the baby Phoebe in its nest and losing it so quickly was such a kick to the gut. So today we are cuddling up to keep each other company and remember that tomorrow life will go on and new eggs will be hatched somewhere 💛

The most beautiful fact in all of this, is that the mom & dad Phoebe will build another nest and work, work, work, for the next baby Phoebe. They will carry on no matter what because Nature dictates it to be so. And I think that’s the greatest lesson. They won’t give up because they can’t. where maybe us humans would.

We've been raising monarch caterpillars, and the other day I put a new butterfly outside, and before she had a chance to fly away, a wasp came right for her and chewed her head off. It was so traumatic. 😨😭 But, I have to remind myself, we have more caterpillars and more butterflies.

I know this feeling, I get so personally invested in the little wild families around my house. And as I get older and the world gets scarier, I am even more invested. Thank for sharing and the essay, will focus on all the thriving phoebe families that are surely out there ❤️

So sorry. We follow the birds and other small creatures in our backyard as if they were our own pets, so I completely understand how heartbreaking this must be! You just hope for good things for all of the beings whose world we are in. ❤️

Grace I’m terribly sorry to hear what happened today. Thank you for taking the time to slow down, notice the small things, and document them. It’s what keeps us all connected to one another and life in my opinion. Thank you!

Honestly was not prepared for the emotional toll of having birds nest near my house. The excitement of finding one leads to worry and sometimes tragedy. I’m not cut out for being that close to the realities of nature.
