It’s the final countdown! .
Well “due dates” are kinda dumb (it’s really a 5 week window) so we are actually just waiting patiently and excited to welcome this babe whenever he decides to make his way earth side.
.
But for the record my due date is July 21st! .
So over the course of my pregnancy I’ve realized a lot of people don’t know how this works for para-moms and it’s funny that I mostly forget that I’m paralyze until people ask me if I’m going straight to a c-section.
.
Then I’m like, oh riiiight...people don’t know about me and my body and make assumptions (which is totally fair)!
.
Well fun fact, most of the para-moms I know and have talked to about their births have delivered vaginally! But that’s just who I’ve talked to and every para, just like every able bodied mom has totally different birth stories.
.
Specific to me, I have feeling down to my mid thighs, I can flex all of my core and back muscles (push) and have my hip flexor and adductor muscles in my upper thighs so there physically should be no reason I can’t deliver naturally.
.
One thing I’ve found though in my conversations is a lot of para-moms weren’t given the option to “adapt” their labor positions and consequentially have had to have an intervention of some sort (epidural, pitocin, c-section) to aid in the delivery.
.
So my hope/birth intention is to have an unmedicated vaginal birth. I have an amazing doula @ashley__eden who has helped me come up with several “adaptive labor positions” that can get the Babe in the best position to deliver and an awesome OB that believes in me and is willing to let me labor in the most productive way I see fit. Also thanks to @renownhealth for creating the best space for me to be in!
.
So... yeah just thought I’d give y’all a lil insight/update... I’m full of baby and my back hurts and my feet are SWOLE but I feel grateful to have made it to 38 weeks and I TRUST and feel open to however labor and delivery unfolds for me and @roytuscany 🥰
.
Thanks for all the ❤️ and good delivery vibes!

I’m so glad to hear you have such a supportive team! That’s a huge benefit in an unmedicated delivery. No two deliveries are the same, but your team is what helps you obtain the best outcome. I had my 3 children unmedicated and took private birthing classes from a doula. It was so helpful! Probably the best advice she gave was to have your ideal plan written out. Stick to the plan, but tell yourself ahead of time that it’s okay if everything doesn’t go according to plan. The MAIN goal is a healthy mom and baby. If it takes pitocin, medicine, an epidural, or a c-section to achieve the main goal, then that’s what we would chose even if it seems the doctor or midwife is choosing for us.

I had two, one each way. 💜 The thing you say about the sensation, level of ability you have will all work to your advantage for sure. The main thing is your confidence in your “people in the room” also being an athlete I clearly remember the moment I focused in on the doctor/coach. He was the one calling out the moves: breathe, stop, don’t push etc. the others in the room faded away during those crucial moments. You’ll do fantastic. It’s all “on” as soon as that water breaks. I’m so excited for you all. 💜

You are awesome. You didn’t owe anyone an explanation, but I deeply appreciate you sharing- I love learning so that I don’t offend or make anyone uncomfortable with assumptions. (Although I have to admit, as someone childfree by choice, I don’t often think about how other women are planning to deliver ??) Hope the bebe’s entrance to the world goes quickly and smoothly!

It never crossed my mind that you wouldn’t deliver natural. You’re just like the rest of us, just limited in lower mobility, and you’re right... you never know what labor and delivery is going to bring. You’re mindset is perfect and you’ll roll with whatever comes your way! Im anxiously waiting!!
