I have a lot of empathy for this lady, and anyone else in this situation. We should all work to live, not live to work. Usually working in retail means your hours change week to week so even the prospect of a second job would be difficult - if she's also looking after her grandson solo, who takes care of him while she works 2 or 3 jobs to keep them both alive? are you kidding me? Anyone who brags of working 60-80 hours a week to survive is also an idiot, because what time do you have left for anything you're working hard for? I don't know the specifics of her day to day, but she has a dependant in her care, working retail (and boy do they love schedules that aren't flexible, and cannot go over a certain amount of hours per payroll). The expectation to get a second job is stupid, and may not also be feasible or easily accessible in a rural location. There's a lot of variables, and being a cancer survivor on top of it.... She's got more guts than those here telling her to work harder and get an education. Wouldn't it be nice if a company as big as McDonald's paid their employees a LIVING wage, who then spend that money in their community, therefore thriving other businesses and the economy... stop being the expert of someone else's life because the issue is bigger than just her story. The Federal minimum wage is a joke and nobody should work themselves to death to put food on the table, clothes on theirs (and other's) back, and a roof over their head. THEN there's insurance/medical... THEN there's student debt, and I don't even want to know how much her medical costs would have looked like ? $15 an hour isn't even asking alot! that's $600 a week at 40 hours BEFORE taxes, Medicare, SS.... Wake up, America.

@fritz.meister.54 ??♀️ I get it. I’m doing the same thing. Fortunately, I have a supportive plus mostly well off family to do small things that help in such big ways. My father-in-law came from poverty and was able to work his way, at I think a Safeway, through Seattle University without debt. Three times. He has two masters. The thing is, I can’t.

Low quality woman raised a low quality woman that gave birth to a future low quality man. It runs in the family and @berniesanders wants you to pay for all these low quality humans and their terrible low quality decisions.

What a disgraceful plight. If you can’t look after your own, but millions in tax concessions to Amazon. America, you really have no idea.

She should find a better job. If you have bills and a life to support then don't freaking work in fast food.

Unions are special interest groups. We would be better off with no special interest groups.
