Happy Birthday Giorgio Armani @armani ! The first image is from his recent menswear show in Milan. The second image (from my archive) is a L’Uomo Vogue 1974 about a year before he started his own label and was working as a freelance stylist. The following images are also from 1974 and the final image is a nude of Armani taken by Bob Krieger in 1975! I think what Armani has accomplished is amazing and the way he built his empire should be studied in both fashion and business schools.

He is. I graduated from Bocconi in management of the arte & culture and we studied “Armani” as an example of integrated business strategy and line extension . He created the business idea of a “maison” together with Valentino and above and beyond him he created a business via line extension (let’s not forget maison Armani and the concept store of Milan opened like 20 years ago!)

Had the chance to have dinner with his original show room manager, and the story of his from the 70’s is extremely invigorating and inspirational. It’s easy to see the diffusion lines now, and cast the Armani label aside, but if weren’t for this man, global fashion would be in a completely different place.

It is actually studied. What is not emphasized enough is that Armani was the one who opened the door through which all the other designers passed, making Milano one of the reference point in the fashion business

Such a gracious and kind man as well! When I lived in Milano we were neighbors, and he always had time to say good morning and exchange a few words! Long live Re di Milano!????????
