“The nature surrounding our communities is changing. There is increasing threat of food scarcity as rivers dry and temperatures change. Life is at risk.” - Bernadette Demientieff, Executive Director of @ourarcticrefuge.⠀
⠀
The decision to reopen the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling threatens the food security and traditional way of life of the Gwich'in people, who have lived in close communion with this land for thousands of years. It will also irrevocably damage the vibrant and vital ecosystems of this incredible national treasure.⠀
In the coming weeks, we hope Congress will vote on H.R.1146, which would STOP the current Administration's push to lease the Arctic Refuge to oil and gas companies. Text ARCTIC to 40649 or check the link in bio.⠀

Last month, ambassadors @トミー・コールドウェル, @clare_gallagher_runs, and @slukenelson traveled to Alaska to attend the 2019 Arctic Indigenous Climate Summit. They were humbled and honored to listen to voices from of the Gwich’in Nation, a variety of Alaska Native perspectives from neighboring communities about the dramatic effects of climate change on the Arctic landscape.⠀
⠀
Afterward, the trio set out on a wild overland adventure through the heart of the Refuge, hiking, climbing, and packrafting their way across this pristine and threatened landscape. All this week we will be sharing more about their trip here on our feed and in our stories, and on @patagonia_climb and @patagonia_trailrunning.⠀

This is typical of liberals to put out science fiction rather than science. I lived and worked up there for 12 yrs. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health and worked as an Environmental Health and Safety professional all over the N Slope of AK. There is not one long term study that demonstrates any measurable change in migratory patterns of the fish, the caribou or the bIrds. I do have hundreds of pictures of all the aforementioned sleeping, or just hanging out beside well houses and the associated piping. Complete wrong argument. Use your time and effort to come up with an alternative that wouldn’t cause the entire country harm. Cruising around up there for a few weeks talking to a few locals doesn’t make anyone knowledgeable enough to determine there should be no drilling.

To the person who said #drillbabydrill, awesome! Let's finally open up drilling near your beloved Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area near Little Mountain and see how good your beloved fishing trips go for you after that happens. Also the Niuqsut Village struggles with asthma and other upper respiratory problems, I don't think the checks they receive cover the costs to move entire families to another place where they can breathe clean air. But it's all good because it's not bothering you and your life.

Yep bad decision for sure. One question, when are you going to devote some energy to the effects of animal agriculture on climate change? It is about time you do since it pollutes and adds some serious amounts of greenhouse gases to our environment. @cowspiracy

What did "our ambassadors" suggest happen to the tribe? (Other than STOP).. First of all, life is not at risk. Rivers and lakes flood every year. Our nature and surroundings are in constant change almost always. #biology #solveclimatechange

I’m sure they would get plenty in return and be very happy with the outcome.... Nuiqsut village in the arctic region is doing just fine and seem to enjoy the checks they receive every month from oil company. #drillbabydrill

Does Patagonia meet with oil and gas companies or attend pro O&G rallies? Is any research done to form a non-biased opinion? Rig
