Currently on this boat named EIRINIKOS
The name is combination of the owners wife & husband Eirini & Nikos. The name struck me because my sister Rachel has the middle name Erina which is the Maori translation of an Irish word Erin meaning a person from Ireland. I was just told that in Greek "Eirini" means "peace". The name Irene comes from this also. In old Irish Eire or Eiru was an ancient goddess. Any Irish or Greek historians/ people, want to comment on possible connections with these words?

To the previous comment regard “peace to the people” is the combo together of those names. But there is Ancient Greek words that describe a significant connection to people in Scotland and Ireland... I know one reference was ΚΑΛΥΔΩΝ, Caledonia - simple connect is “Celts” BUT the ancient groups under that name went off in quite a few directions including Australia and New Zealand... so if there’s interest in the relational history of cultures and lands the ancient names do have significant hints

Eirene is the goddess of peace and Spring. The Romans copied a statue of the original bronze one (which is lost) of her carrying the child Plutus, the god of plenty who is also the son of Demeter. The statue is said to be a representation of Plenty prospering under the protection of Peace. Ériu/Erin is the patron goddess of Ireland. Her name may mean, earth, soil or plentiful. There are definitely some similarities between the two names ?

Not Irish (except in terms of ancestry) or Greek, but it sticks in my mind that there was some cross-pollination by way of trade between the Greeks and Irish thousands of years ago. I also want to say that there were stories that the Tuatha de Danasn were originally from Greece, but I can't remember where I read that. Etymology is an interest of mine, so I'm fascinated by similar words in different languages.

According to the following article, https://www.irishorigenes.com/content/origin-irish-and-scottish-gaels-revealed-their-dna, the Irish and Scots migrated from the area of the Czech Republic which, as you know, is not too far from Greece. As you have taught us, we are all related. We share so many more similarities then differences with each other but we focus too much on the differences. ???

Its a good name for o boat because its like a pun. Eirini means peace, Nikos is from Nikolaos which means "the one who brings victory to the people" and all of it together "Eirinikos" means "peaceful one". It's actually a word in Greek, so yeah, its a pun with the names of two lovers and it gives this amazing
