They escorted me to this bedroom, a round bedroom with an adjoining balcony. I remember passing Kim Basinger in the hallway. At the time she was going out with him. She had just finished doing a song on the Batman album. He walked in wearing a purple suit. He appeared to me like a deity - like a Tibetan monk. I was almost paralyzed from fright. My expectations were that he would put on his own music, and be the character that he personified in his performances. To my surprise, he was very shy and did not speak. He was listening to the Cocteau Twins. At that point I started taking pictures against his stereo equipment. After a few frames he said to me, “Are we doing advertising for the sound system?” I then decided to take him outside and shoot him on a white painted canvas.
