Photo by Drew Rush @drewtrush | When did you fall in love with nature? What are your first memories in the outdoors? This was one of the best sunsets I've seen, but I won't remember that. I'll remember walking with my daughter as she kept saying, "Everything the light touches is our kingdom," from the "The Lion King". She might forget it, but I certainly never will. #lovedad
I'd love to hear about your experiences outdoors and in nature, so join in the conversation and follow along with me @drewtrush.

@marthajane1985 Mine is a similar story. Moved into a house out in the country with nothing but a deep forest surrounding it. I was about 6. My mom suffered from "bad nerves" so always sent me and my 2 brothers outside. We lived in the woods leaving at daybreak not coming in until dark. I guess the forest became my mother. Taught me so much about life. I will never forget the smells, the discoveries of baby animals, the sounds, the peacefulness. My brother's made swinging ropes from the vines in the trees, dug a cave with tunnels in the earth in that forest. My youngest brother almost lost his life there one winter, by falling through the ice along a body of water from runoff from the streams there. Our dog saved him by pulling him out of the ice and water. My older brother and I thought we would be in trouble, but those were just normal things that happen when you live with nature. We survived but we also thrived.

Island of Guam. Before cable TV reached the island, all shows were aired 1 week late. Yes the Superbowl, World Series, big prize fights. More incentive to go to beaches, waterfalls, jungles. Hike down "Spanish Steps" carved into cliff hundreds of years ago. Find WW2 hand grenades, carry them in a bag to home of Disposal Officer ( I'm still alive ). Eat mangos, papayas, star apples, iba, tamarind, etc. Freshwater shrimps at Tarzan Falls, and above the falls, stick your face in the mountain spring source for a drink. The beaches, fishing, tide pool hunting for creatures. Watching giant fruitbats lumbering in the sky like a Godzilla movie LOL

When I was 6 years old my dad took us on a family trip into the mountains in a place called Waterton, Alberta. We did a hike up a small mountain. Once we reached the top and the view we got - I was instantly in love with mountains and hiking forever after. Over the years I returned to Waterton many times. My dad passed away last summer so we decided to take his ashes to Waterton and spread them on the lake beside the trail where he did his last hike out there.. I'll never forget the family time we spent out there.

In northern England when I was five. Walking through the early morning with my sister & a favorite uncle. We explored the wood finding the first tiny wild strawberries of the year(they were delicious) The dew was sparkling on the grass & a faint mist rising upwards as the sun warmed the air. We would find buttercup & a whole hillside covered with bluebells. They were unforgettable mornings & we have our Uncle George to thank for showing us our beautiful world.

Hahaha!! O my goodness! I would have cried laughing hearing that in person! That is so cute! And such an adorable picture. My favorite memory outdoors is camping with my dad. And I fell in love with nature when I went to Ireland and just sat in a field by the ocean and just breathed in the fresh air and enjoyed water on one side and hills and trees on the other.

My very first real contact with nature was at age 4, in a family farm (in Argentinian countryside)... remember looking for earthworms under the rocks, then put them (not easy?♀️) in the fish hook so I can spent time with my brother and father fishing. We learned patience lessons those days...
