On the day of the #FIFAWWC Final, let’s get this straight: This is a WOMEN’S game not a GIRL’S game. Players and pundits often call us “girls”. As we move the game forward and fight for equality throughout the world, we must demand the respect we deserve! (Photo via Rich Barnes/USA TODAY Sports)

@hopesolo First, come off of the soapbox and relax. Sure there are a few idiots who use the term “girls” in a derogatory way, but if/when I say it, it’s meant to mean youthful, playful, energetic, free spirited. I love the spirit of the women’s team, both on and off the field, and I associate that kind of love of life with the term “girls”. As for the pay difference, just boycott the game! Everyone just needs to join hands, and when it comes time to negotiate contracts, lay down the law. When the league loses advertising dollars, endorsement dollars, etc., THEN, and only then, will they listen. Hit them in the wallet! My sister is the strongest woman I know. Throughout school she played every sport, very well. And if she were in this position, I’d say the same thing. If you want change, then change it!

There is barely a market for men's soccer in the US, let alone women's soccer with farrrrr less talented and far slower players. The worst men's team would annihilate the best women's club. So while the World Cup does temporarily pique the nation's interest if the women's team is playing well, it hasn't been a sustainable interest. It has nothing to do with male, female; male parts, female parts; it has to do with a general lack of interest in the sport here with the most talented, fastest male players--let alone female. It IS unfair. But that is entertainment. It is all well and good to preach we should just appreciate the women's game for what it is, it is quite another matter to change what people feel is entertaining.

Honestly... I'm all for equal pay in all aspects of life... work, sports, you name it.. if they deserve it then yes most definitely.. but the total lack of respect for the game of soccer some women had in that world cup is not deserving of equality.. from the antics of the us women and there goal celebrations too the Cameroon womens team acting like little girls... there are investors looking at this and wondering why equal pay should happen... I personally respect all players and what they have too sacrifice too get too the level they re at.. but...

@johnty7555 sure this happens in the UK but we are talking about US soccer. In the US no one refers to men athletes as boys however women athletes are referred to as girls. Yes it is a seemingly small thing but small things build up to a much bigger trend. That is what I understood the point of the post to be. Let’s make real comparisons instead of just distractions. UK vs US is different than US vs US. Apples vs apples, apples vs oranges.

i still remember yrs ago when you psyched Sacic for the free kick..That was an awesome #sportpsychology to the highest level..??? i had a big laugh when u took a minute for a stroll & everybody was like "what the heck is she doing?" then came back to your position and pointed something to the ref as if nothing happened..? while Sacic looked uneasy watching you...???

I believe it's what the person is usually used to referring and it's also different from each country. I hear all sorts of from and I dont think it's out of disrespect besides some idiots of course. Its is true that women's team should get paid equally as the men's espically when they win more tournaments and have made the country proud by winning multiple world cups.
