My goal as a high jumper in high school was 7ft, it was pretty much all I thought about for years. I won countless competitions and became one of the top high jumpers in the nation. Many times I had jumps at 6’10” that could’ve easily cleared 7ft but that height eluded me for years in large part because of multiple injuries. I was so into high jump that my mom painted a mural of me clearing a 7ft bar in my childhood room. In the Summer of 2007, 5 years after retiring from high jump competition because of 4 knee surgeries, I decided to try jumping again...I guess it was my lucky day or season or year because after warming up for a bit, I jumped 6’ through 6’8” pretty easily. Then, 6’10” my previous personal best...then 6’11”...THEN 7ft...THEN 7’1”...THEN 7’2”!!! It was a pretty surreal experience to say the least that after years of ZERO training or practice I finally achieved my goal of jumping 7ft...and then some!
