nothing against Halle but when u think of ariel u think of her red hair bright eyes and pale skin. it just won’t be the same when u see the movie and ariel looks nothing like the original character we grew up with. Halle is so so beautiful and deserves a great role in a disney movie but just not this one. personally i’m disappointed in the casting, just because disney stuck to the race for every other live action like aladdin and mulan but then changed the characters race completely. i’m not being racist and i have nothing against black princesses but i just don’t think u should completely change ariel’s characteristics and i think the movie won’t get good ratings which is sad because so far i’ve loved every other live action movie disney has made.

Why can’t Disney respect the original story, respect Denmark and Andersen? Andersen did described the mermaid as a pale skin girl, “her skin was as clear and delicate as a rose-leaf, and her eyes as blue as the deepest sea; “ ; “was I will do it,” said the little mermaid, and she became pale as death”; “...and then became aware that her fish’s tail was gone, and that she had as pretty a pair of white legs ....”Those are from the reference Wikipedia used("Hans Christian Andersen: The Little Mermaid". The Hans Christian Andersen Centre. University of Southern Denmark. ) You used Andersen’s story and you should respect it.

Okay, those saying she halle is not danish and so can't be Ariel, is emma watson french? Yet she is belle. In the original story by hans christian anderson, the little mermaid didn't even have red hair. Disney created the character you have in your head with red hair, blue eyes, pale skin, purple clam bras and a green tail and they can change it if they want to. The disney version didn't even give any reference to danish culture or showed that the movie was set there. Jasmine, mulan, pocahuntas and tiana stories gave focus to their country or race.

It has nothing to do with racism, just to say, the original story about this mermaid said "...and that she had as pretty a pair of white legs and tiny feet as any little maiden could have; but she had no clothes so she wrapped herself in her long, thick hair" do you guys think phrase matches to this woman? I know she has perfect talent to be a princess, but not Ariel. Imagine if Moana or Tiana played by white woman, this wouldnt match either. I am so disappointed.

I don’t care about the choice they have made for Ariel, I think it’s fine and refreshing. I mean, who cares? We’re still talking about a movie, and yes, I liked Ariel as well when I was little (I’m a redhead, trust me, I liked it), but that’s no reason to start judging this poor girl just because you want things to be as they have always been. Maybe this choice will open a door to new ideas and to a whole new era. I’m up for it! You go, Halle Bailey!! ???
