Black-footed ferrets live in burrows underground. At the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, we build artificial burrows and tunnels for them above ground, which means that keepers sometimes see little faces peeking out of the "burrows." They will live in real underground burrows when they move to pre-conditioning sites to prepare them to be released to the wild. #WeSaveSpecies #BlackfootedFerret
