1/2 • Eighteen months ago I started reading pilot scripts for the 2018 season. I was rejoining the television landscape after a nonnegotiable six month hiatus from sets (thank you to my amazing team at #CAA +#Untitled for respecting that choice & sticking to it with me) and curious about what story I wanted to tell next.

I read a pilot about a 50+ year old woman working in government service, as a writing sample for this guy David C. White. Would we want to develop something, perhaps? Seemed like a yes. And then I read what felt 100’s of other shows. But I kept thinking about THAT one. I didn’t like any of the pilots for women in my demo as much as THAT show. That show called #Surveillance. I called him up and said, “who is that woman before she’s made it to the top? When she’s on her way up, only has one kid, is often the lone skirt in a man’s world, has proven herself countless times but is constantly asked to again and again? Who is SHE, do you think?” And immediately we were collaborators. It only took about a day and half to also become best friends!

We set to redeveloping. We found our North Star in our fearless and incredibly brilliant, almost omniscient director/EP @patriciariggen. We pitched. We sold. We did more drafts. We cast. I spent months — as both a producer & an actor on this job — testing all of the actors who came in. I know from experience how shit those audition rooms can be, so I wanted mine to feel different. Personal. For days & weeks I acted across wonderful talents. We cried. Laughed. Screamed. Debated. We brought the heat. We landed with — and the list is so good it still has me SHOOKETH — @catalinasandino, @therealleech, @matthewmodine, @dennishaysbert, and #RaphaelAcloque. We prepped for months. Shot through November and December, edited January through March. We delivered the highest testing pilot at the network in nearly 10 years — SO PROUD OF US!! — but ultimately, though it’s magic, in the greater landscape of their slate and given the budget of making a big, bold, beautiful show that takes moon shots or nothing, it’s just not going to work.

@sophiabush Well... let's be honest and say this SUCKS. As I'm in no place to tell what to do, I'll tell you what I would probably do: I'd give myself a minute (probably more like a day) to cry about it because, again, this sucks... after that it's shoulders straight and head held high looking forward bc nobody can't take away what you learned from the whole experience... The good, the bad, the happy, the sad, the shitty, the awesome... everything goes into our baggage and every time we try again we make it better. And... you already sold a fuc#ing show! That is awesome. I'm not gonna lie and say I'm not sad... I was really really waiting to meet Maddy. But I'm also excited for what's coming next. And coming from you, it sure will be great! #onwardandupward

Oh man. All that work, passion, energy.... I have been waiting (I'd say patiently, but I don't lie) for you to come back to TV, ideally with your very own series. Have loved you as an actress since One Tree Hill. But now I love you as a woman, a warrior, a fighter, a sister, and a crusader. Thank you for fighting the good fight. And using your "status" in a positive way...like I wish so many other celebrities would. (I had so hoped to see you in Minneapolis awhile back when Together Live was here. But wasn't that lucky. Maybe someday....) ?

I love you so much, you don’t know but you have changed my life. I discovered on Chicago PD and have fallen in love with Erin Lindsay the same way I have fallen I love with you. Thank you for being such a role model and overall inspiration to young people like me, you have truly had an impact on my life and I could never thank you enough. I love you forever and always and dream of maybe meeting you one day. Keep being you and doing the things you love. I love you so much.

@sophiabush Yet another bad move from the peers that be (on tv). I’ve often wondered why some of the MOST brilliant shows get canceled so obviously prematurely. And now I’m wondering how anyone would “pass” on what would have clearly been a winner. Yet some of the most inane television remains on the air. I’ll be waiting (w endless others) to see what’s next for you. For now, You’re just so missed on tv. Until you find the next great project!!! Much love!??

Awwwww @sophiabush I was getting so excited because I def miss you on the small screen but thanks for sharing the highlights and the lowlights. I think it’s important to see and ultimately understand that not everything works out the way you want it to. I hope to see you in a new show something that makes you happy, excited, creatively satisfied as this show did ♥️

We love you Sophia. The brave, bold, incredible and humble human you are. Just never stop, I know this happens and I read the news about the pilot before you posted it and I was sad because I was hoping to see you soon, but life happens. Just please, never stop, because I know every time you decide to tell a story is one worth hearing for.
