One of the main goals for the trip was to interview Zdar and Boombass for WARP, a Japanese street culture magazine at the timing of the release of Cassius’s 3rd album “15 Again”. I was able to contact Pedro from Ed Banger Records in advance who said; “I can organize it for you” and was able to have a meeting with Zdar at the Paris club he was DJing at, “Elysee Montmartre”. During that time, It was the eve of the “ELECTRO” and SebastiAn, So Me, and Uffie were at the club, even Chromeo’s Dave 1 came as a guest to the venue. We were still young, and we were hungry to see world get taken over by the ELECTRO. I remember Zdar playing techno with his own groove and the flow of electro. After he was done performing, during the interview he stated, 『With “15 Again” I want to always have a pure passion for music like I did when I was 15』. Another memory during the trip that I have is during different venue’s party, an acquaintance of mine said they saw Zdar “sitting on the top of a white grand piano talking to his friend while holding a drink in one hand” and under his breath my friend DJ MAAR said “how cool is that…”. After being in the studio with everyone from ROC TRAX after a few years, I saw on the internet that Cassius was at what looked like a holiday house on the South Island making music with nothing but a lit candle, notebook, speakers, audio interface and a guitar. Just like the grand piano story, these two always embodied "elegance”. “1999”, “Au Rêve”, “15 Again” followed up by ("Youth, Speed, Trouble, Cigarettes” and “I Love You So (I <3 U So)"were released) and about 10 years after, the 2016 release of the album “Ibifornia” encapsulated Cassius with “elegance” and “passion”. And then on June 21st, 2019 their newest album “Dreems” is playing out of my speakers on repeat. On the first play through, tears began to flow from my eyes while listening to “Calliope”. As a fan, I’m not yet sure how to process Zdar’s passing, but this album is no doubt is a masterpiece and continues to exude the elegance and passion of Cassius.」6月21日 22時27分
