Language shapes the way we think and helps us know the culture🗣💭
What would you say if you dropped something and someone picked it up for you⁉️If you’re Japanese, you’ll say "I'm sorry". If you’re Western, 99% would say "Thank you".So why do we choose sorry rather than thank you...🤔it means, "I'm sorry (for bothering you and taking up your time to pick up what I dropped, and thank you)." 🙇✨
It expresses the culture which teaches to think about the other person’s feelings first and that you shouldn’t inconvenience others☝🏻🙅‍♀️
When the words are simply translated from Japanese to English, this hidden meaning is lost🌀

In English, we always use the verbs and emotions first, but in Japanese the last↔️If I use Japanese structure,"The restaurant I went to lunch with my friends yesterday was very delicious and 【I was impressed】." You don’t understand what we want to say in Japanese if you don’t listen until the end.
Talking with my friends in NY, it is natural to cut in to the conversation, because we already said the important part first✅🙆‍♀️I always advise my English-speaking friends who are living in Japan, that they should listen till the end of the conversation otherwise they will never get the important part👊🏻‼️Most Japanese people prefer to prioritize the flow of the conversation rather than what we want to say💬It’s a big 🔸CHALLENGE🔸to say "Please listen to me, I'm still halfway into what I want to say".

I am Japanese👘I was raised in a traditional Japanese family and I have never studied abroad, but am learning to speak English by studying by myself🇺🇸Also I can speak French and Chinese for traveling and am studying Italian now🇫🇷🇨🇳🇮🇹When I use other languages, it is necessary to change the way of thinking more than words🔁💥Sometimes I make mistakes because my Japanese way of thinking doesn’t translate in the right way to English🤦‍♀️But I don’t want to stop challenging myself to use different languages to get to know other people and their perspectives❣️
Learning a language will help you learn the way of thinking and culture of people who use other languages😊And it is one item of creating diversity🌏🌟
