The moment it hit me that this was the most beautiful thing in the story, I became unchained...

Agree! Here’s a poem I wrote a while ago about Quasimodo: “Sorrow & Beauty: To Dine with Gargoyles
By c.t. gross
He sits in the belfry, sketching the moon
even though daylight has blocked out his view;
bells only silence the noise, inside his head...
for the sky is confused and screaming instead.
He traces the rainrops, starting to flow
past his obsession, onto the window;
it’s so ironic the pane, matches his own...
for both contain nothing when broken by stones.
He lights the candles, at quarter-past eight
afraid of the dark, where nightmares await.
Why can’t the shadows explain, where sorrow ends...
to a man on his knees, without any friends?
He skulks in the corner, darning his socks;
invisible walls, but it’s still a box.
Tucked away safely, he waits, there on the shelf...
for someone to notice he’s human as well.
He listens to colors falling from trees,
trying to capture their soul, he believes.
Music is vivid within, whispers unseen...
for those who find dancing with vision, serene.
He sits in the belfry, counting the stars,
spellbound by beauty, despite he’s bizarre.
O’ how can he hear their ringing, inside his head...
when the sky is confused and screaming instead?

I used to do an impression of Quasimodo when I was 5 or 6, drove my mom nuts. She finally asked why I insisted on pretending to be him. I said he was the nice one.

I read about this moment in your book, it moved me. I also see it in the characters that you have created - the inner beauty shines brightly. Truly inspiring.
