This place is extremely hard to get into. With only 20 permits given a day using a lottery system and hundreds of people from all over the world trying to get in, the odds are against you. I tried for the next-day permit a few days ago and wasn’t successful. Over the years I’ve collectively spent months camping out for a permit, it’s tough but the reward is worth the effort!
In other wave news, I’m super excited to be heading to Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch (@kswaveco) tomorrow to surf the best man-made wave in the world with @outerknown. As a kid, I grew up with a giant poster of @ケリー・スレーター over my bed so this will definitely be a dream come true! ...I’m also super nervous about falling and blowing it on the wave haha. 😅🤞🏼

@chadillaq geotagging is an important piece of our brand as we encourage people to get outdoors and experience the world around them. We post inspirational places and help show people how they don’t need to sit back and look at this pictures on their phone - we show them how to get out into nature and experience these places for themselves. I think your point certainly holds true to prevent the exploitation of some sites, but not for the vast majority of locations

@forsakeco I fully understand that, neither are most places in America but someone has to lead by example and the people with nearly a million followers won’t do it. The example isn’t the point, it is the message. Is it helping the issue of over-tourism to geotag? Or is it helping the person geotagging? Impact is impact and when you influence millions on a daily basis the products you promote and the places you expose are part of that impact.

@forsakeco Geotagging is also an important part of selling your shoes. Once again a benefit for you and not the environment you are impacting by tagging. To argue the value of geotagging with a brand who sees it as an important piece of their business is pointless. I would rather just agree to disagree. Cheers

@chadillaq it’s hardly a challenge to find this location with a cursory google search and permits help prevent over-tourism. The Wave is probably not the best example of a place that’s at risk of over-tourism
