I have a small handful of individual friendships and I still get occasional pangs of loneliness 🤷🏼‍♀️ Don’t get me wrong, I have incredible humans in my life and feel ever so grateful for those around me. However I just want to reassure you that adult friendships and in particular female friendships can be tough. We grow up. We grow apart. We move house, city or country. The people we thought would be in our lives forever end up leaving. We get thrown into new environments, communities and workplaces hoping to find lasting connections. And it isn’t easy to do that, it feels vulnerable to reach out and meet new people. It feels like everyone else has their close knit groups and you are left on the sidelines trying to find yours. But you know what? I’ve realised that it is normal for friendships to ebb and flow, for your inner circle to grow and shrink as you evolve. I’ve come to realise that you don’t NEED lots of friends or the idealised “girl gang” to be happy. You just need small handful of amazing humans who understand you, support you and bring you joy. It can take time and effort to find your people, and they can come into your world much later in life than you ever expected. They can stay forever or go in a different direction, and that’s ok.
