In the Philippines, basketball is everywhere. Go to any street corner. Any village. Any beach. Even a church. You’re likely to see a basketball jersey. “It’s often described as a religion,” says Carlo Roy Singson, managing director of N.B.A. Philippines. After James Naismith invented basketball at a Y.M.C.A. in 1891, missionaries began spreading it around the world, particularly in the Far East and the Philippines.
